I heartily recommend “Alexander The Good Dragon” as a compelling tale well told. Author Fred Wolf drops the reader into highly a cohesive world during a time of great darkness and danger for humans. Because . . . there be dragons. In the tradition of George MacDonald and his Inkling Proteges, Wolf’s young protagonist is thrust into a very grown-up task. The vistas, the discoveries, the perils, and the battles are all memorable. The journey is instructive, faith-filled, and breathtaking. And it leaves readers wanting more.

This is a great adventure story for middle schoolers. It teaches the value of persistence and courage, with the ultimate source of courage being a strong faith in God. The young heroes in this book are believable because they are not perfect; they are honest with themselves, are willing to learn from others, and strive to overcome their own mistakes. It is skillfully written with a plot that pulls the reader to discover what will happen next. The simplicity of prayer in this book is an example for readers of any age. I suspect Fred Wolf will be producing sequels which draw an expanding audience of young readers.
